Reasons to go to camp
Summer is busy, and it seems every year there are more and more things that we can do to fill up our schedules. So often we’re left having to choose betweeen conflicting sports or events, and it’s not always whether or not we want to do something, but what we want to do more. And since you may be wrestling with whether or not you should go to Student Life Camp with us this summer, I wanted to share why it’s something more than worth giving up a week in June. The ultimate hope of camp is that you would come to know and love Jesus, but these are 3 things that make camp a unique experience from many of the other options that you may have.

Camp Removes Distractions

Our lives are full of distractions. We are bombarded with all kinds of information, advertisements and media, and our minds are constantly having to sift through newsfeeds, notifications, inboxes and updates to determine what’s valauable to us and what’s not. Even as I’m typing this, I currently have 10 different tabs open on my web browser! For many just being able to focus on anything for longer than 15 minutes is not only a challenge, it’s nearly impossible. Camp steps into the chaos of distractions and weeds out all of the voices so that you can clearly hear God. It’s amazing how God is able to move in our hearts when we’re actually giving Him our attention!

Camp Disrupts our Rhythm

The camp schedule is designed to maximize your week so that you have a great time and hear the Word of God. But one of the added benefits of this schedule is that it’s nothing like your normal routine. Chances are you don’t gather with your friends every day at 10AM for a time of worship, but at camp this is what we’ll do every morning. From beginning to end each day at camp is teaching us a new routine that revolves around worship and God’s Word. In a sense we’re being trained on what life looks like to be walking with God simply with how we’re spending our time. Many of us think that we don’t have the time to do these things, but the reality is that we have enough time, the only question is where are you spending it?

Camp Builds Community

One of my great joys of taking groups to camp every year is seeing the friendships and bonds that built over the week. Community is a natural product of walking in God’s Word with other believers, it’s simply unavoidable for us as brothers and sisters in Christ. Sin may attempt to get in the way by causing division or conflict, but camp helps us to learn what it looks like to live in close quarters with others, which may will at times involve forgiving and reconciling with one another. And this is what community is, living with and loving one another.
